As of March 19, 2020 schools and businesses in Cap Haitien, Haiti are required to be closed due to COVID-19, including our school, Ecole Academie Solidarite du Nord. As a result, all students, teachers, and staff members are asked by the government to remain at home to prevent the spread of this virus. Haiti is an impoverished country that is more vulnerable to widespread diseases and COVID-19 is no exception. As 60% of Haitians live below the poverty line, they are forced to choose between going to work and potentially contracting the virus and staying home, rendering themselves unable to put food on the table. Because of these uncertain times and the strife that COVID-19 has caused, we want to lend a hand.
